Update your Xperia™ software

Update your Xperia™ software

Our software updates build on everything you already love about your device, bringing you better stability, new features, bug fixes and more.

Why update?

Just like other gadgets, such as, computers or digital cameras, your Xperia™ smartphone or tablet has software that will need updating. We strive to continuously improve our devices, which is why every now and then we will share our newest software capabilities with you.
Updating is our way of bringing you new bug fixes and improvements in performance, speed and functionality for free. Software updates generally improve stability and enhance the overall user experience of our devices. You may not always directly notice what an update does to your device, but the new software may prevent future problems.

When to update?

A notification in the status bar of your Xperia device indicates that new software is ready for you to download and install.
When a new software update is available, an icon will appear in the status bar of your device, indicating that it’s ready to download and install. You can also connect your device to a computer using a USB cable to check for new software.
New software is released all the time. However, the availability and scheduling of software updates will be released at different points depending on model, market and network operator.

How to update?

There are several ways to update the software of your Xperia™ smartphone – over the air or cable-based.
  • Directly on your device, over the air
You can update your software wirelessly, directly from your smartphone. Updates can be fairly large, so use a Wi-Fi® connection if you can. Please note that not all updates are available over the air.
  • PC Companion
If you have a PC, you can use the PC Companion application to update your smartphone or tablet software. You will need a computer with an Internet connection and a USB cable. You will also need to download PC Companion onto your computer.
  • Sony™ Bridge for Mac
If you have a Mac, you can use the Sony™ Bridge for Mac application to update your smartphone or tablet software. You will need a computer with an Internet connection and a USB cable. You will also need to download Sony™ Bridge for Mac onto your computer.
